understand that I'm not trying to convince you to think like I do, rather I wd hope that room wd be made for many theological differences.To think discuss and debate theology is well supported by the New Testament and history, and is perfectly within the bounds of what it means to engage our minds with the subject at hand.Theologians and
biblical scholars have done this very thing for centuries, revealing a plethora of opinion on the evolving world of
biblical studies.Many capable authors have written and debated the
common themes as well as the differences between Paul, John, Jesus, the synoptics, etc..
That evangelicals, all claiming a
common Biblical norm, are reaching contradictory theological formulations on many of the major issues they are addressing suggests the problematic nature of their present
understanding of theological interpretation.
When the republic was founded, the
biblical tradition and the Enlightenment» two distinct and often antagonistic
understandings of the world» seemed to find a patch of
common ground.
If this is the serious intention of the Bible reader, many of the
common errors in
biblical understanding will be avoided.
I swear - there are
common sense Christians who live by faith and follow ALL HIS COMMANDMENTS and then there are the pick - and - choose, no -
understanding, ignorant Christians who can quote a couple of Bible verses (turn the other cheek, thou shalt not kill and judge not being the most popular amongst your ilk) who LITERALLY have NO READING COMPREHENSION SKILLS AT ALL and for whom CLEARLY The Lord has not chosen to reveal the most basic of
Biblical tenets.
