The Association of California School Administrators and other
education groups have called on the state board to use this year's results essentially as a
practice test, without any accountability purpose, because
teachers are still being trained in
Common Core, and many students have not had any experience with online tests.
Jon Star, a Harvard
education professor, said he thinks most high school math educators across the country have not changed their teaching
practices according to the
Common Core in the same way that elementary
teachers have done, such as by leading discussions about math and facilitating group projects.
The demand for online
teachers is growing and expanding in K - 12 settings, and the
practice is increasingly
common at higher -
education institutions.
On the eve of the administration of SBAC testing in our State, it has become clear to me, as interim Commissioner of
Education, that there is much validity embedded in the much - heated controversy surrounding
Common Core State Standards, mandated standardized testing to measure progress on those standards, and the intended
practice of evaluating
teacher effectiveness based on those student test results.

Education, however, recently waded into years of research to identify and analyze the key issues and answer two fundamental questions: How has testing influenced instructional
practice, and what conditions and policies have will make the impact of new assessments aligned with the
Common Core State Standards more positive for
teachers and students?
From publishing companies to
teachers with Pinterest and LiveBinder accounts to state departments of
education and consultants and professional organizations both large and small — examples of what the
Common Core standards can look like in
practice are emerging everywhere in the form of videos, units of study, exemplars, self - assessments, and more.
