The causes of the crisis that nearly killed Bilinkis's
company were many: a patronage system, started by Juan and Eva Perón in the 1950s, that grew into a bloated government bureaucracy; a corrupt privatization of government services that sold off some of the country's most valuable assets

sale prices; and a reactionary monetary policy that exacerbated both of these problems.
Not only did the
company itself say that webOS isn't necessarily dead, the TouchPad was also sold off
at the
fire sale price of $ 99.
Amazon has sold over 2.2 million
Fire Tablets in the first quarter of 2017 and the Seattle
company continues to market them
at a very aggressive
price point with a strategy to drive content and product
sales via the device.
Looking back, we enjoy the benefit of hindsight... but let's not under - estimate the existential threat to the
company at the time: Operating free cash flow was minimal, there was little opportunity to realise assets (except
at fire -
sale prices) in 2009 - 11, almost EUR 400 million of net losses, investment write - downs & goodwill impairments were recorded in the five years ending in 2012 (which actually understates a near - 85 % collapse in net equity), as the banks kept shrinking their committed facilities & imposing harsher terms (and seriously considering pulling the plug).
I'm hoping that the
company was able to deploy some of its cash and buy back a good number of shares today
at these
fire -
sale prices.
I bought
at a time when it appeared to me Mr. Market was valuing the
company based on a worst case scenario,
at a
fire sale price.
