companion animal welfare legislation in PEI.

Our role, as
animal lovers and
animal welfare advocates, is to keep the heels of the government to the fire, to ensure that the review is a real opportunity to ask questions about how many
companion animals are killed in our pounds and why our
legislation isn't doing a better job of saving them.
The public at large needs to understand that MORE than just
animal welfare is at stake here, and
animal lovers need to understand that the AVMA and all its state affiliates are concerned ONLY with the financial interests of its members, NOT with
animal welfare, since they lobby against humane
legislation to protect
companion animals at every chance they get.
Our purpose is to: Help raise public awareness of humane treatment of
companion animals; Assist other rescue organizations place their
animals; Provide pet owner education which will result in more successful permanent homes; Research and promote
legislation to enhance
animal welfare and control regulations; and Find adoptive homes for individual
animals.
We must seize the grass roots momentum that started last year, and like Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the grass roots organization that placed the wrongfulness of drunk driving into the minds of everyone, we must let legislators and other elected officials know that we do not want lip service and a mysterious end to
animal welfare legislation; we want meaningful change for
companion animals in Oklahoma.
