The gauge is not the central bank's most closely watched measure — that would be the personal
consumption expenditures index — but still could
figure into decisions on interest rates.
Inflation as measured by the core personal
consumption expenditures price index jumped to 1.5 percent in the first quarter, government
figures showed on Thursday, a jump from 0.4 percent the prior quarter.
Personal
consumption expenditure (PCE) inflation, meanwhile, rose to 2.2 percent in February, higher than the 2.1 percent reported in January, although the monthly
figures slipped to 0.2 from 0.5 percent.
