Since Garabedian began painting in his early thirties, the Los Angeles - based artist has ploughed a determinedly idiosyncratic furrow, never adhering to
contemporary fashions (though he was included in Marcia Tucker's 1978 «Bad» Painting
exhibition at the New Museum, New York) nor to received conceptions of balance, taste or beauty.
As well as our in - house
exhibitions, William Benington Gallery has contributed to various external projects including Sculpture in the City, a public
exhibition of
contemporary sculpture within the Square Mile of the City of London; and an ongoing collaboration with menswear
fashion house, E.Tautz.
The
exhibition incorporated a diverse range of media including photography, film, video,
fashion, and other forms of popular culture and prompts rich discussions about the contested ways that African and African American beauty have been represented in historical and
contemporary contexts.

The line - up will consist of film,
exhibitions, talks and debates, literature, music, politics, visual arts,
fashion and cuisine, including: Light from the Middle East, an
exhibition of
contemporary photography from the Middle East, an evening of song with Emel Mathlouthi, a discussion of the role of art and culture in Syria with journalist Malu Halasa and an evening with poet Al Saddiq Al - Raddi whose work reflects his identity as an African poet writing in Arabic.

FASHION NOW This is the first large - scale
exhibition devoted to
contemporary Native American design from the last 60 years in Canada and the United States, as well as garments inspired by Native traditions.
The Bass seeks to expand the interpretation of
contemporary art by incorporating disciplines of

exhibition examines the contested ways in which African and African American beauty has been represented in historical and
contemporary contexts through a diverse range of media, including photography, film, video,
fashion, advertising, and other forms of popular culture such as music and the Internet.

A new touring
exhibition looks at
contemporary African design with works by more than 120 artists including sculpture, prints,
fashion, furniture, film, photography, apps, maps and digital comics.
The talk is to coincide with Hayward Gallery's group
exhibition «The Human Factor» which brings together major works by 25 leading international artists who have
fashioned new ways of using the human body in
contemporary sculpture.
The
fashion and textile displays engage in dialogue with the work of seven
contemporary artists working in a range of disciplines whose work addresses one or more of the
exhibition themes.
Next year, the ICA will also stage the first British solo
exhibition by Israeli artist Dor Guez, new pictures by
fashion and
contemporary photographer Viviane Sassen and a project by Chinese artist Zhang Ding, which will transform the ICA theatre into an installation, recreating rock concerts that had historical significance.
Curated by James Putnam, Research Fellow at London College of
Fashion, University of the Arts London and produced by Alteria Art the
exhibition includes work by 28 established and emerging international
contemporary artists, surveying the influence of nature and its processes on their work.

fashion photographer and
contemporary visual artist, Viviane Sassen's upcoming
exhibition Hot Mirror at the Hepworth promises to be one of the absolute highlights of this year's cultural calendar.
Supported by a Center Advancement grant, the Philadelphia Museum of Art presents Creative Africa — a season of five
exhibitions highlighting art and design from the African continent, from
contemporary photography,
fashion, and architecture to centuries - old sculpture.
