Whilst the majority of Porto's
contemporaries are nowhere near as stable (there have
at the
time of writing already been close to one hundred player departures from next season's sixteen Primeira Liga participants), there is a discernible culture of adaptability that, whilst not unique to the
game in Portugal, is rarely seen outside of South America.
At the
time of its release back in the late 90s, all of its
contemporaries were focused on modern or futuristic military settings — with a smattering of fantasy properties like the original Warcraft — but there was a distinct lack of historical video
games.

It managed to get me excited about
contemporary video
games at a
time when I was pretty disenchanted with them.
As refreshing, and revelatory as Quantum Break can feel
at times, it can also feel rote in falling back on these tried and true mechanics that most
contemporary games use.
