Modern and
Contemporary works on view transcend national boundaries and involve all forms of visual expression, including painting and sculpture, drawings, prints and illustrated books, photography, architecture and design, and film and video, as well as new forms yet to be developed or understood, that reflect and explore the artistic issues of the era.
In addition, an informed selection of works of art from The Blanton's print collection will add a historic counterpoint to
the contemporary works on view.
Modern and
contemporary works on view — in old and new media — offer a creative dialogue with the past.
Some contemporary works on view played with the format and aesthetic of the newspaper, as in Robert Gober's Untitled (Brooklyn)(2011) or Gerhard Richter's Erster Blick in das Innere eines Atoms (First Look at the Inside of an Atom)(2000), both of which resemble clippings.

On view October 22, 2016 — January 22, 2017, this exhibition surveys the state of representational painting at the beginning of the 21st century and features approximately 40
works by 20
contemporary realist artists from throughout the United States and Canada.
While necessary discussions were had, this was also a shame, because it sucked most of the attention from the truly staggering range of
work on view by
contemporary artists.
Works by African American
contemporary artists from Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, and Florida will be presented in six spaces at the museum where the institution's permanent collection is usually
on view.
Work by Zanele Muholi is included in the group exhibition,
