«Remember we had completed the first quarter of
continuous voter registration in July and the information had been backed up as well as shared with INEC HQ in Abuja,» Obo Effanga, Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner stated.
He said that the challenges included funding and personnel, adding, «don't forget the section of the Electoral Act that says there shall be
continuous voter registration.
Yakubu also said that the commission could not hold
the continuous voter registration at the polling unit levels because it would cost N1.2 bn per day, the total amount approved for the entire exercise.
He noted that
the continuous voters registration in the new registration centres would commence between Wednesday April 11 and April 16, 2018 simultaneously in the state across 177 registration areas.
While pledging to conduct free and fair elections in the state, Agboke informed that INEC in the state was working to ensure that no case of underage voting or foreigner is allowed to register in
the continuous voter registration in the state.
About 40,433 new eligible voters have also been captured onto the electoral roll during
the continuous voter registration exercise, with 29,897 (52.7 %) out of the over 56,000 deleted NHIS registrants re-registering.
He called on residents of the state, who had attained 18 years to register during
the continuous voter registration to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
Mrs Oluwafolake Kolawole, Lagos Coordinator of the Forum said in Lagos that it was important for the youth to utilise the opportunity of the ongoing
continuous voter registration to obtain their PVCs.
«Since
the continuous voter registration (CRV) is periodic, the government of the state of Osun, therefore, considers it as imperative to dedicate a day for fresh potential voters to register for their voter card and for those that had registered to collect their PVC to enable them exercise their franchise on election day,» Baderinwa said.
