One
of the reasons I like to keep
formatting in my
control is because we often change our
ebooks over time.
This presentation will focus on the
formatting options available in ePub, how open standards like CSS are implemented in the real world, and identify those features
of ebooks which can be
controlled — and those that are just part
of the new publishing reality.
The downside to me
of Amazon as a publisher is that I want the
ebooks to be available in an open
format that can be read on multiple readers rather than tied to a closed, vendor
controlled format.
The great thing about FBReader is that it takes a poorly
formatted ebook and turns it into a nicely
formatted one automatically, where you can
control the font type, size, line spacing, text encoding, margins, hyphenations, and line breaks all from within the settings
of the
ebook itself.
It's also great for those that like to be able to have more
control over how an
ebook is displayed and for those that need support for a wide range
of ebook formats and languages.
