I recommend using a training tool so you have a little more
control over your dog if they get distracted.
If owners were allowed to tug on the dog's leash to encourage him to follow, or to push on the dog's rump to prompt or coerce him to sit, they would come to rely on leash - tugs and rump - pushes and so, would have
no control over their dog if he were off - leash and out of hands reach.
