The preSERVE Garden, located in the North Lawndale neighborhood, was founded in 2010 by
converting a
vacant lot into a community garden to promote green
space, food education, and healthy eating.
The award will assist CB Emanuel Realty, LCC with
converting the
vacant historic building into affordable workforce housing and approximately 23,000 square feet of commercial
space.
OAG funding is helping the Chautauqua County Land Bank demolish between 40 - 50 highly distressed properties, as well as preserve and resell 40 - 50
vacant «side lots» that will be
converted to open
space and transferred to responsible owners who will put the lots back on the tax rolls.
The long -
vacant, 13,200 - square - foot building will be
converted to five apartments and office / training
space.
Neighbors from the place wrote wishes and took images which were projected over
vacant lots, with the goal of denouncing that these
spaces could be
converted into public places.
