mission presents you with a new challenge, like hiding from an overwhelming armada of Melville's ships, ambushing a trading
convoy, holding strategic positions, sneaking through the enemy lines at night, etc..
Mission objectives include bombing and strafing raids against facilities and
convoys, protection of ground troops against enemy aircraft and, of course, action - packed dogfights against enemy aces.
The expected space battles are interspersed with
convoy escort
missions (not as annoying as you might expect), capital ship take downs (where close proximity to the big ships gives a real sense of speed and excitement) and even the occasional speed run.
In some
missions, you have to destroy an outpost or bunker, deplete Empire's presence in the region or protect
convoys as they reach their destinations.
Rolling Thunder is a type of escort
mission where a team must protect a
convoy going from point A to point B.
The levels have a variety of objective - based
missions, such as escorting / destroying a
convoy, defending / attacking a base, or just surviving a few enemy waves.
The side
missions thankfully have a lot more variety than the first game and you'll do various things such as taking pictures of enemies for Intel, stopping enemy
convoys, or helping out a super powered ice conduit take out his own friends.
The
mission objectives tend to be a bit basic on the surface — extract this guy, assassinate this informant, stop this
convoy — but what happens along the way is often unexpected and almost always exciting.
In the campaign mode, the player must embark on a variety of
missions like search & destroy or protect
convoys and engage in a variety of enemies that doesn't include just tanks but there's also drones and you need to smash through your enemies defences as well.
Extending on the game is the many side
missions that fill Chicago, all throughout the city are little investigation
missions, criminal
convoys, gang hideouts and plenty more.
Hopefully, there will be plenty of variety and places to visit as well as long, drawn - out driving
missions like the
convoy hijack one we played in Los Angeles in June.
In contrast to the seemingly endless waits in some of the Armored Core 3
