There is the quick
cooking oats used here in these cookies, the rolled
oats used most often in my
breakfast, and the steel cut
oats I use
for extra special cozy mornings.
I usually
cook steel cut
oats at a ratio of 1 cup
oats to 4 cups of water and store them in the fridge
for a week's worth of
breakfasts.
When making oatmeal, quick
oats cook in less than five minutes which makes them a good choice
for a quick
breakfast.
This recipe combines quick -
cooking oats with unsweetened almond milk, chia seeds (chock full of healthy fats) and plant - based protein powder
for a delicious
breakfast that will hold you over until lunch.

cooker I do actually prefer these
oats after they've had a chance to sit in the slow
cooker for at least 30 minutes before serving and after
cooking as they absorb a lot of extra liquid that I don't like having in my oatmeal.
You CAN freeze
cooked steel - cut
oats, so if you're looking
for a make - ahead freezer
breakfast, I'd go the steel cut
oats route.
