I've never
cooked yellow split peas before — didn't have trouble with them getting too mushy.
Cook yellow split peas in about 3 - 4 cups of water.
With hot water it is the same result as
cooking the yellow split peas until soft and then cook with a chili pepper mix.
You need to
cook the yellow split peas until soft and you are able to mash it into a puree.

I find
yellow split peas take a lot longer than lentils to
cook up - but, its fine to start them up at the same time?
I forgot to note this in the write up, but to my taste buds the
yellow peas have little / none of that that «
cooked pea» flavor that puts many off the green
split pea type dishes.
