The combustion chamber produces a much higher pressure than the cooling
system, so you may have combustion gases
leaking into the
coolant but no
coolant leaking into the combustion chamber, hence no loss of
coolant.
Interestingly, the
system didn't seem to want to accept
coolant for some reason - it all came
leaking out of the hose.
And no, there is normally no need to add
coolant when there are no
leaks in the
system
Most engines will run just fine without pressure caps, the increased pressure helps deal with temperature surges, hotspots and the sealed cap helps seal the
coolant system from
leaks.
It is a small hand pump that pressurizes the
system and forces the
coolant out at the
leak point.

If used in a
coolant system to detect
leaks, the surface tension component is not important since you will only be looking for the bubbles.
It could be a few things: Low
coolant Failing water pump (or slipping belt) Sticking thermostat Obstructed passages in the radiator Cooling
system not holding pressure (rad cap not sealing, cracked rad,
leak somewhere, bad head gasket)
All that is required afterwards, and presumably once the
leak has been detected, is to drain and flush, then after any necessary repairs all that is required is to refill the
system with
coolant.
I do have a
coolant leak somewhere in my
system.
Oil
leaks to the
coolant system aren't fundamentally different from
coolant leaks to the engine if a blown head gasket is the problem.
They also, will deposit themselves wherever they land in the
coolant system (not how they make it look in the commercials where it goes directly to the
leak and creates a perfect patch).
A small
leak [like the one being described in your post is going to be present only when the
coolant system is pressurized.
I'm concerned they didn't source a new oil pump - without it, parts of the engine or
coolant system may overheat and this could lead to
leaks such as the ones you have seen.
This is all to say that if there is any
leak at all, the
system will not hold pressure, and the boiling point of the water /
coolant mixture will be low enough to boil at normal operating temperatures.
The Problem: Weakened actuators in the Prius V's exhaust - heat recovery

leak, causing the hybrid's warning light to turn, making the car run in safe mode.
Generally speaking, the operation of the AC
system should not create a
coolant leak to occur, as
coolant does not flow through the AC unit in any capacity.
The intake
system is known to have vacuum
leaks and also
coolant leaking into the intake.
If the
coolant level is well below the «Low» mark, have your cooling
system checked for
leaks.
Have the cooling
system pressure tested to see where the
coolant is
leaking out?
If the engine has a
coolant leak that is not external to the engine or cooling
system would not have anything to do with the transmission repairs.
If you've recently had wholesale service completed on your cooling
system (which based on your question it appears you have), the
leaking water may be contributed to a
coolant hose fitting that was not properly tightened or a...
Try to keep the
coolant level full until you can get the cooling
system pressure tested to see where the
leak is and get the
leak repaired.
The
system should be inspected for
leaks to ensure there are no other issues causing the engine
coolant level to drop.
Keep topping off the
coolant as needed until the
system is totally full, checking for
leaks where hoses were removed and installed.

system (it has a weak seal in the intake manifold that produces a
