Everyone loves the smell of a nice clean baby, and when a baby is has been peeing, pooping, and spitting all day starts to smell like old spit up and dirty diapers it might be tempting to give them their first bath, but if they still have their umbilical
cord stump then this is a horrible idea.

Another tradition says that when the dry umbilical
cord stump falls off, you can keep the belly button from becoming an «outie» by placing a button or a coin on it and
then covering it.
We did run into some problems really early on with the diaper rubbing on the
cord stump (and
then the scab on the navel) and causing some bleeding, and of course they are really bulky on a newborn — but that didn't bother me or the baby!
But until
then, you need to make sure you're doing diaper changes correctly, especially when your little one still has their umbilical
cord stump.
If you have a cabinet with side - by - side knobs (round knobs work best),
then you may
stump your little one with the pull
cord baby lock (at least for a while).
