Thanks to our LDC work during the 2010 - 2011 school year, District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) contracted with Inspired Teaching from 2011 to 2015 to work with cohorts of teachers to create Common
Core - aligned curricula for every
unit of every
social studies course grades 6 - 12.
These concepts are explored in
units of study across state standards in STEM and
social studies disciplines, as well as integrated with the Common
Core State Standards in English and math.
Instructional
units bring together
core academic subjects, science,
social studies and the arts, enabling children to make links across subjects in exciting and stimulating ways.
Looking at Lincoln, by Maira Kalman, and Those Rebels, John and Tom, by Barbara Kerley, could be paired together in a second - or third - grade
social - studies
unit that explores the complexities of war and peace while satisfying the
core objectives of the standards.
Similarly, the Rose's renowned collection of postwar art is rooted in a commitment to material invention and expanding knowledge through culture, while Brandeis's investment in
social justice as a
core value permeates the work of every teaching and research
unit of the University.
