Reduced visual
cortex gray matter volume in children and adolescents with reactive attachment disorder.

Using brain scans to compare the
gray matter of children with RAD to typically developing children, the researchers found significantly reduced
volume of
gray matter in the area of the brain known as the left primary visual
cortex.
The results suggested that greater leaning towards liberalism was associated with increased
gray matter in the anterior cingulated
cortex, whereas greater embracing of conservatism corresponded to increased
volume of the right amygdale.
Of those people, 562 had an MRI brain scan around age 73 to measure overall brain
volume,
gray matter volume and thickness of the
cortex, which is the outer layer of the brain.
Comparing MRI brain images of eight Dobermans with CCD to the control group, Ogata found that the CCD group had higher total brain and
gray matter volumes, lower
gray matter densities in the dorsal anterior cingulate
cortex and right anterior insula, and higher fractional anisotropy in the splenium of the corpus callosum (the degree of which correlated with the severity of the behavioral traits).
In particular, aerobic capacity has been associated with greater
gray matter volume in frontal regions (premotor
cortex and supplementary motor
cortex), subcortical regions (hippocampus and caudate nucleus), temporal regions (inferior temporal gyrus and parahippocampal gyrus) and the calcarine
cortex.
Of those people, 562 had an MRI brain scan around age 73 to measure overall brain
volume,
gray -
matter volume and thickness of the
cortex, which is the outer layer of the brain.
A recent fMRI study showed that the MAOA genotype at risk for impulsivity and violent behavior is associated with reduced
gray matter volumes in limbic regions such as the amygdala, dorsal anterior cingulated
cortex (dACC), and subgenual ACC and greater amygdala and subgenual ACC responsivity to negative emotional faces [25].
