Erie
County Legislator John J. Mills is pleased to announce that the 8th annual Concord
Library Hot Dog Roast Fundraiser, held July 10, raised $ 1,426 to support programming and
materials for the
library.
As the chart below illustrates, combining a $ 21.7 million 2006
Library Tax levy with the loss of
County Capital funding for
Library materials, Erie
County's 2006 support for B&ECPL operating and
library materials would be pushed down to levels not seen since 1996 - 97.
In 2004,
County contributions comprised more than 85 % of the
Library's operating and
materials budgets with the balance made up of State operating aid, which has remained relatively stagnant, as well as
library fines, fees and related income.

The volunteers will plan and host fundraising events and activities together with the Buffalo & Erie
County Public Library, in an effort to provide the Library Systems 37 branches with funds to underwrite programming for children and adults, as well as
materials to support the nearly 15,000 Erie
County residents who use the
libraries daily.
In 2015, more than 7 million books and other reading
materials were borrowed through the 37 Buffalo & Erie
County Public
Libraries.
Patrons may also return
library materials to any other Buffalo & Erie
County Public
Library branch.
The Buffalo & Erie
County Public Library System has more than 3.2 million
materials such as books, magazines, eBooks, CDs, DVDs and rare
materials including popular, diverse and specialized collections which can be found throughout its 37
libraries and the Library on Wheels Bookmobile.

In 2017, the Buffalo & Erie
County Public Library System's circulation of
materials, representing 37
libraries and the Library on Wheels bookmobile, was over nearly 6.4 million.
Fill every seat 18 and one - half times and you can count the number of Erie
County residents who regularly visit and rely on their local
library for
materials, services, programs and a place to appreciate them all.
