I can understand why people are often confused about this, but consider the readers
point of view; if they select a mystery novel with an image of the protagonist on the
cover there is no room for their own creativity or imagination, as the
story has already been illustrated for them.
As an independent author myself, I enjoy the control of my content, control of my rights, control of my
covers (that
point is shared with my wife - she designs my eBook
covers)... in other words, all aspects of my
stories are controlled by me.
All analogies fail at some
point, and I'm sure that this schoolyard
