When Oscar voters spoke up last Tuesday, two intriguing
craft category nominations stuck out, both coming from the same branch: Mark P. Stoeckinger's third bid to date for the sound editing of «Unstoppable» and Greg P. Russell's fourteenth — yes, fourteenth — for the sound mixing of «Salt.»
For the most part,
the crafts category nominations weren't surprising, and there is not a single film that fared drastically better — or worse — than I expected.
Not exact matches
It's also true that both of these well - made films tend to be strongest in the below - the - line
categories where the level of
craft skills on display is truly remarkable and leads to those hard - earned double - digit
nomination totals.
But as I noted in a column here two years ago, the pre-Fall months can be a major source of
nominations in the
crafts categories.
With multiple
nominations in the
craft categories the film easily topped the 2018 list, followed by Martin McDonagh's black comedy Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and the Gary Oldman - starring Churchill biopic Darkest Hour.
Neither film has a
nomination in a
craft category.
They had to make their choices and they didn't go for the film except in the
crafts categories (7
nominations, all below the line).
On the one hand it seems like a default player under «Most» in
craft categories but on the other hand it couldn't even snag a single Golden Globe
nomination and it would have seemed a shoo - in there given their traditional fondness for musicals.
RTÉ's Dublin - set crime drama Love / Hate leads the overall Awards shortlist with 10
nominations across television drama, acting and
craft categories.
He also claimed the Awards» genre - based
categories are pointless for celebrating the
craft of game design, and slammed the policy to charge indies up to 700 to be considered for
nomination.
Among the slate of artfully
crafted titles, a few projects in particular have received award
nominations in multiple
categories, including Dinosaur Polo Club's minimalistic subway layout game Mini Metro, and Sam Barlow's engrossing crime fiction game Her Story.
