The one exception that I know of is tofutti
cream cheese, which
contains no added
gluten but the company does not certify that all flavorings are
gluten free.
Regarding the «when to label as
gluten - free» issue, I usually do so when the item in question usually / sometimes
contains gluten when prepared «normally,» but doesn't in this particular recipe — so I wouldn't say «
gluten - free ice
cream» but I would say «
gluten - free brownies.»

contain gluten and I've never seen one that does.

Because many frozen desserts like ice
cream and frozen yogurt
contain gluten (especially if they have mix - ins like candy, cookie pieces, and the like) or may be susceptible to cross-contamination, reading labels will save you a lot of aggravation.
All
gluten products — that is products that
contain wheat, wheat germ, wheat flour, all - purpose flour, white flour, graham flour, barley, rye, oats (unless pure oats), bulgur, couscous, farina, kamut, kasha, semolina, spelt, triticale, malt and malted drinks, soy sauce and most gravies and
cream sauces.
Those that do
contain wheat
gluten, such as S'Mores and the Cookies and
Cream Rabbit, clearly show the presence of wheat in the ingredient listings.
Even if you avoid all
gluten -
containing grains and products made of them, you'll have to check labels carefully to avoid hidden sources of
gluten, as it's often found where you least expect it (i.e. ketchup, ice
cream, soy sauce and salad dressing).
You should be able to spot wheat on the ingredients list, but really — who is going to check an ice
cream container to see if the product
contains wheat or
gluten?
