Amazon's command - line tool for developers to
create MOBI files is called KindleGen, and it is also integrated into many eBook - making programs like Calibre.

create MOBI files using the free Calibre (Mac or PC) or MobiPocket Creator (PC only) programs.
I heard horror stories from aggregators which handed over the ePub files of their publishing houses and are now asking me (and my service, I don't mind) to

At first,
MOBI - formatted ebooks could only be read on Amazon's Kindle e-readers, but it didn't take long for them to wise up and
create apps so that
MOBI files could be read on competing devices.
Being able to
create MOBI and EPUB
files almost instantly is fantastic.

creates and upload it to Amazon's DTP.
In addition to giving you better control over and knowledge of the book's formatting, uploading a
Mobi file gives you the ability to add a cover image that automatically zooms on the K2 and DX, and it gives you the ability to
create waypoints in the Location Bar on those devices, making navigation between chapters as easy as a right - or left - click on the joystick.

files, I highly recommend Kinstant.
While either program does an adequate job
creating files for personal use neither program was capable of producing the kind of ePub or
Mobi eBook that should be sold to the public.
You will need to
create and obtain the eBook
files for your books (
MOBI files for Kindle, for example, and EPUB for most others) so that they're easily obtained by readers.
