color, typography and much more.
As someone who's been around the publishing industry for a while, this concept was one of the hardest things for me to wrap my head around when I first started
creating ebooks: that using
color wasn't verboten.
Using a monochromatic palette will give your
eBook a very professional, minimalistic and harmonious look and feel, and if you spend a little extra time on it you can
create something truly exciting from one specific
color.
Complementary
color palettes can
create a really interesting style for your
eBook, and would typically be used to
create a vibrant, bright and bold product.
Don't forget, while you might have a lot of fun
creating diverse, vibrant and beautiful
color palettes; if it doesn't communicate what you want it to (harmony, professionalism, youth, health, etc.,) then it won't work and your audience will be confused as they read through your
eBook.
Use varying tints and shades of the
colors you select to
create a beautiful and dynamic
color palette that will engage with the readers of your
eBook.
Do not use tables to
create drop caps or to highlight text in an
ebook using borders and
colored background.
I've been asked to
create a series of Children Books into
ebooks, and the only suitable outlet I am finding is the Nook
Color, yet B&N doesn't give formatting guidelines.
Finally, Blurb has emerged as the place for full -
color ebook and print book authors with their great tools for
creating Fixed Format EPUBs along with print versions of your book.
