The pieces featured in this exhibition provide entry points into bodies of work that construct robust narratives, representing ongoing projects and life - long dedications of twelve artists maintaining practices with the essential
studio support of
LAND in NYC, Hozhoni in Flagstaff,
Creative Growth and NIAD in the Bay Area, First Street Gallery Art Center and ECF in Los Angeles, and
Creative Vision Factory in Wilmington, Delaware.
Blackboard is the first exhibition from the LANDLovers series, which invites artists to visit our
studio and introduce
LAND artists to a new
creative activity based on a specific material or theme.
The exhibition associates this idea of «offshore art» with past developments in
Land Performance and Conceptual Art of the 1960s and 70s — a time when artists moved the
creative process beyond the
studio — and forms new dialogues with contemporary artists whose processes continue the interdisciplinary and site - specific practices that began with pioneers such as Bas Jan Ader, Dennis Oppenheim, and Robert Smithson.
