Henry Murray describes «cognitive and convictional
functions» of myths, which must be
credible to their adherents, though he considers these secondary to other
functions.28 Even though a living myth is closer to daily life
than to metaphysical speculation, it does seem to presuppose some sort of truth - claims which can be examined.
