Some good stretches to help include the broomstick shoulder stretch,
cross body stretch and shoulder circles.
When stretching the posterior shoulder
a cross body stretch is recommended as this was found to be more effective than the side lying sleeper stretch by McClure and colleagues (7).

So the physical aspect is wonderful for building a strong and resilient
body, however what keeps me going back, (as opposed to just doing
cross training and
stretching) is the mental challenge of it - of being confronted with silence, or your own perspective on who you are in the world, or the constraints of your own
body that certainly can be changed, but can't be forced.

body), maintaining a healthy diet, utilizing proper posture and running form; integrating strength and
cross training; and
stretching regularly.
