In two recent works, The Uncertain Phoenix and Eros and Irony, David L. Hall
presents a systematic and radical critique of the Western
cultural and philosophical tradition, and (in The Uncertain Phoenix) a provocative vision of a future which might result front a movement away from certain
aspects of that tradition.
