Earlier audio - visual installations range from Baltimore (2003), which, in part through the stylisations of black action movies from the 1970s, looks at the histories, divisions and intersections of black and white cultures, through to his trilogy comprising True North (2004), Fantôme Afrique (2005) and Western Union: Small Boats (2007), all of which deal with themes of voyaging and
cultural displacement on both a local and global scale.
The exhibition draws upon the Wolfonian's collection to explore issues of identity — personal, corporate and national — as well as the impact of
cultural displacement on the history of design and the role of commercial art in the modern city.
