The relativity of Niebuhr's theocentric
relativism derives not from the variety of religious and
cultural contexts in which different people live, but from the awareness that each person lives in several of these contexts
at once.

relativism, atheism, doubts about the superiority of democracy, undue deference to the «pluribus»
at the expense of the «unum,» discomfort with patriotism, cynicism toward established
cultural conventions and civic institutions.
