Each week start
by removing one
feeding with a bottle and replace it with a
feeding with a
cup.
If supplements are required, they should be given
by lactation aid at the breast (see Handout 5: Using a Lactation Aid), not
cup, finger
feeding, syringe or bottle.
Feeding items can be sorted
by infant (think bottles, baby spoons, bottle warmer and breast pump) and toddler items (think small bowls, sippy
cups and little forks).
My bra size was huge before I got pregnant, F

feed without getting totally smothered

It went really well given that she was already used to being bottle
fed by daddy, she had already begun drinking liquids from her own sippy

Although breast -
feeding for 12 months is the gold standard in infant nutrition, pediatricians say introducing a sippy
cup between 6 months and 12 months is fine and can be followed
by drinking from a regular
cup.
Most premature babies who are unable to coordinate the suck and swallow reflex can be
fed their mother's expressed breast milk
by cup, spoon or nasogastric tube.
By the time the toddler celebrates the second birthday, you should be
feeding whole milk (toddlers need the fat and calories for growth and development) and other dairy products (1 to 11/2
cups).
