A week ago, on the night of Friday, February 17th, two incongruently mirrored exhibitions opened on either side of the East River: Charles Atlas» The Illusion of Democracy at Luhring Augustine's new Bushwick outpost; and What I Know, a large group show of Bushwick artists, curated by Jason Andrew, at the New York Center for Art & Media Studies (NYCAMS) in Chelsea.
This group show, curated by Marisa Sage, UAG gallery director, was juried by the UAG Exhibition Review Board from more than 100 international applicants who applied for an open call made by the UAG for exhibition proposals.
Also in 1995, Hans - Ulrich Obrist curated the group show Take Me (I'm Yours) at the Serpentine Gallery, with bags of secondhand clothes offered by Christian Boltanski for a pound, Gilbert & George distributing free badges, and Jef Geys inviting visitors to buy fruit at the reception desk.
For his latest show at Mary Boone, curated by Piper Marshall, the artist has deked again, presenting new groups of sculptures (iPhone - wielding disembodied hands, t - shirt panels, snakelike hybrids of arms and legs resembling brutally pared - down dancers) that both synthesize his earlier works and enter new terrain.

She's curated exhibitions internationally, including the performance and print programme for Chart Art Fair in 2015, The Dark Cube at the Palais de Tokyo, E-vapor-8 at Site Sheffield and 319 Scholes in New York, along with numerous other shows in European project spaces, showing a keen and experienced eye, which was demonstrated in Manifesta 11 by including a diverse group of artists such as Martine Syms, Coco Fusco, Aleksandra Domanović, Trisha Baga and Frances Stark.
The thematic title for her central curated group show in the Arsenale, «Viva Arte Viva», might sound like a Ricky Martin song, but for Macel it is «a sort of mantra or outcry of passion» in celebration of the role of artists and their working processes.
This past weekend we stopped by Mark Moore Gallery for the opening reception of «Empty Distances» a group show curated by Caryn Coleman.
The first time we gave it to Matthew Higgs for his «Bulletin Boards» show, and the second time was with Gavin Brown for the group show Laura Owens and her friend Peter Harkawik curated of Californian artists.
