cutting sugar nearly in half, when I even bake sweets, for decades.

Next time, I'd
cut the
sugar to 1/2 a cup from the
nearly one cup I used and use two chilis: with the seeds, they make for a spicy sauce.
I also lightened up the recipe,
cutting the fat in half and the
sugar nearly in half.
Things I changed: -
cut the
sugar by about half, using mostly dark brown
sugar for the molasses kick - scratched the nutmeg and allspice but added about 1/3 extra of all of the other spices and also added
nearly a tsp of ground cardamon - replaced the veggie oil with melted leaf lard - scratched the raisins - baked it on a deep sheet for only ~ 20 minutes - just barely until firm to the touch - then
cut that sheet into three layers - replaced the icing with my own 16 ounce cream cheese, 8 ounce butter, ~ 6 ounce heavy cream, ~ 5 ounce honey, 1 tsp vanilla combo - toasted the coconut before dressing the cake.

cutting back on
sugar, sodium, fat, and alcohol and aiming for specific quotas of carbs, protein, and fat.

cut people's caloric intake
nearly in half, from 3000 calories a day down to 1570 without
cutting portions, just by substituting less calorie dense foods, which means lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and beans, compared to a high energy density meal with lots of meat and
