On view is a recent body of work in which Lambrecht explores the evolution of perception using the
cyanotype process, an early photographic technique dating to the mid-19th century and named for its Prussian blue hue.
In the early 1950s, when Rauschenberg was living with artist Susan Weil in a one - room apartment
on West 95th Street in Manhattan, they produced a series of
cyanotypes — images produced without a camera, by shining an ultraviolet light
on an object or nude model resting
on blueprint paper, exposing the paper where the light isn't blocked and creating a negative shadow of the object or model's outline, similar to the way an X-ray is done.
John Pearson's
cyanotypes and videos are meditations
on light and shadow, the process a direct translation of sunlight into image.
For an older body of work
on view at the fair, Houck downloaded architectural renderings of Gothic cathedrals from a site called 3D Warehouse and inverted them to negatives, eventually printing them as
cyanotypes.
The oil

The first exhibition to focus exclusively
on photographs made in the eastern half of the United States during the 19th century, East of the Mississippi: Nineteenth - Century American Landscape Photography showcases some 175 works — from daguerreotypes and stereographs to albumen prints and
cyanotypes — as well as several photographers whose efforts have often gone unheralded.
At the Contemporary Arts Center, the artistic duo Ellen Gallagher and Edgar Cleijne were puzzling out exactly how to present «Highway Gothic,» which encompasses a series of

Jerinic's «sea» is a nearly 27 - foot long
cyanotype mural
on fabric made from a series of photographs which alternate images of the city's solid terrain and the watery landscape that surrounds and defines it.
Weil continued to expand
on this
cyanotype photographic printing process in her later work, including in her collaborations with photographer José Betancourt.
Organized in collaboration with a seminar from Clark University, the exhibition will be presented with thematic emphasis
on botanicals, landscape, abstraction, and portraiture — areas that dominated much of the production of
cyanotypes in the early twentieth century and recur in contemporary work.

cyanotypes, the perfect continuation of and counterpoint to that work.

While that older series was printed
on C - print semi-gloss paper, the STPI reboot involves
cyanotypes, sculpture and screenprints in weavings of matt paper, into which warp and weft are injected with glints of silvery foil — a nod to traditional silver joss paper burned as offerings to ancestors.
