of dairy production medicine at the College of Veterinary Medicine, created three vaccines in his lab that lower metritis incidence and symptoms in cows, showing promise for alternatives to antibiotics in addressing the disease.
«These externship experiences, as a result of the scholarship, have prepared me for a long, successful career in the cattle industry and veterinary medicine,» said Cully, a Cornell University student who is pursuing a career
in dairy production medicine.
It is the number one cause of systemic antibiotic use, which floods the whole body with antibiotics rather than just a specific region, said Rodrigo Bicalho, assistant professor of
dairy production medicine at the College of Veterinary Medicine.
After receiving his DVM from the University of Florida in 2002, Dr. Newcomer joined a large dairy practice in central California and
practiced dairy production medicine for two years.
Commitment to Veterinarians One of last year's recipients, Thomas Cully, Cornell University, plans to pursue a career
in dairy production medicine.
