As for the broad applicability, we're seeing it every
day in the nonprofit world, as plenty
of groups are learning to use their supporter lists for more than overnight fundraising and email
advocacy — some are finding ways and providing tools to turn supporters into evangelists in whatever communities they're a part
of (whether local or not).
According to the event's organizers, the coalition plans to bring more than 2,000 advocates and supporters to the Capitol for what is being described as a «massive grassroots»
day of lobbying and
advocacy.

advocacy thing: I'm starting to experience a kind
of «favoriting» fatigue — meaning that the digital causes
of the

Back In The
Day (i.e., last year) when I was at a certain online communications firm here in the DC area, we fielded a request from a client that turned out to be impossible to meet: they wanted a list
of state politicians» Facebook and Twitter feeds so that they could start targeting them with
advocacy messages.
So far, I'm impressed, since even out
of the box it's more than adequate for the kind
of issue
advocacy sites I'm starting to build clients these
days (bidness has started coming in nicely, a source
of some relief here in the e.politics bunker).
Spam blockers are our enemies, for one thing, since they have the potential to cripple email
advocacy (the spambot at one
of my old
day jobs sometimes caught our OWN
advocacy messages, reminiscent
of the early B1 bombers jamming their own radar).
This kind
of variation is extremely common in the
advocacy and political worlds these
days.
CAP is hosting a big series
of online and offline events over the next few
days to support a clean - energy smart grid, including an ongoing Tweet - Up (#grid), a blogging series and (this afternoon) a session
of the Internet
Advocacy Roundtable.
And as anyone who's been using Facebook regularly for
advocacy communications knows, text / link posts simply don't get much visibility these
days, meaning that their new infographic would have dropped out
of sight quickly.
