She has had the privilege of teaching not only students varying in grades Pre-K through high school, but has taken the desire for learning to the college level, teaching undergraduate and graduate students who are also following their passion to one
day teach special education.

This post originally contained a lot of TMI (too much information) about my past with
teaching (I was a
special education preschool teacher to two and three year olds), but after letting this post sit in my drafts for a few
days I felt I needed to change things and just leave out details.
It complements the previous
day's program by providing all sorts of useful items (e.g., Exit Slips) that can be used to improve the cognitive abilities of the
special education students that I
teach.

Classroom teachers have the same assigned
teaching time as now, but specialists in music, art, physical
education, technology, library / media, and all
special education resource teachers start their
teaching day two hours later and
teach two hours after the regular school
day is over.
Unlike my requirement in Maine almost twenty years ago, to this
day, New Jersey does not require its pre-service general
education teachers to take even one credit of coursework specifically aimed at learning to
teach students with
special needs in general
education classrooms, which I believe at least partly explains New Jersey's problematic record on implementing the least restrictive environment provisions of IDEA.
