We were making a blueberry lemonade the
other day, and my
mom preferred more water in the recipe
than my sister or me.
His
mom, Veronica, keeps his diet right with fish and
other proteins, and with encouragement to keep her son on his training course when those
days seem more of a grind
than most.
Around here we need a «buy something
day» because
other than groceries and gas once a week this
mom of 6 rarely buys anything!
This was my literal truth one year ago and NOW that she can speak — she came to me
other day when I was sick as a dog (and more
than a little surprised that she let my
mom look after her) and says — you got 37?!?! (her codeword for fever as in 37 degrees Celsius).
Knowing all this information was out there, I couldn't believe there was anyone who didn't breastfeed these
days,
other than uneducated teenage
moms, those with uncompromising work situations, or those unfortunate women who were physically unable to do so (and according to what I had read on the La Leche League website, there were very few of these women out there - far fewer
than the formula lobby and misinformed doctors would have us believe).
There will always be
days when this transition is harder
than others, whether it be when your child first starts attending child care or just on a
day he wants to stay home with
Mom or Dad.
But a friend of mine said to me the
other day that it isn't anything to do with luck - that she and her family have chosen to cut their income by more
than half, going without financially, in order for her to be a «stay at home»
Mom.
From even my second Mother's
Day — when I had three babies all less
than 20 - months - old — I spent most of the time taking care of the
other mothers in my life — my
mom, mother - in - law, sisters - in - law, etc..
And the regulation would require employers to give new
moms break time to pump during their work
day and a clean space to pump
other than a bathroom.
Small breast milk storage capacity: you are providing enough breast milk to keep your baby full and happy (a baby consumes a standard 30 ounces of breast milk a
day) but need to feed more frequently
than other moms.
But the truth is, for most
moms Mother's
day is no different
than every
other day of the year.
According to Dr. Sears, breastfeeding
moms need to drink about four more 8 - ounce glasses of water a
day than other people.
Other than being able to sleep in, there's no better way to start off Mother's
Day than with a delicious brunch (that
mom didn't have to cook) and some coffee.
I remember LOVING the playdoh and paints / sparkly glue
days... and hating the sleeps, naps, and car seat struggles... but just barely... I was lucky enough to have a pretty fun
mom group, and I swear I saw most of these
other moms more
than my own husband, it's as if I was scared to be alone with two toddlers in the house..
Boy
moms were found to spend about two hours more per
day with
other chimpanzees
than the girl
moms did.
I walk in the door to my parents house after a long
day of training clients on a Friday night, and smack dab in front of me is two HUGE trays of homemade lasagna prepared by none
other than, my
mom.
We have a lot in common in terms of being
moms, trying to live a healthy lifestyle with fitness and food, an interest in fashion yet realizing that being busy
moms we have to be more practical and
other things have become more important
than mani / pedis and putting on a full face of makeup every
day.
Add to that we don't have family who live in Tulsa and my
mom already drives in and watches her once during the week (she goes to daycare the
other days I work), figuring out date nights was more difficult
than we anticipated.
❖ By 6 weeks of age, the puppies are weaned and no longer see the
mom (she has not wanted to see them
other than twice a
day to relieve herself of her milk).
It was Mother's
Day when I visited the Delta Sky Club SLC and they had extra decorations out and were offering mimosas to all
moms (pretty sure you could order a mimosa on
days other than Mother's
Day but not sure).
It's been actual years since I have put a paintbrush to a canvas, and this project isn't exactly like the terrible paintings my
mom may or may not still have stored in her basement, but it brought me back to the
days of exploring what paint can do on something
other than my walls!
