Despite remarkable growth and the prevalence of its brands, however,
as a public company it was never able to inspire
investors, and was a perpetual underperformer: in the period between late summer of 1993 and the

value of its shares appreciated by a measly 26 %.

GREENBLATT: Well you know I taught at Columbia
as I mentioned for the last 22 years and so I tell my students that first
day of class actually, I tell them that you know I don't think there's a lot of social
value in being an investment manager, it's not that I don't think
investors who do work set help set prices and allocate capital and all those things, but I just think A, they're not very good at it, and B, it'll get done without you.

day crashes like last week, but its

day traders provide some

days — stocks are highly
valued and bonds yield almost nothing.
Just
as bank executives continue to make the same mistakes time and again lured by the fad of the
day and the promises of high hanging (and yet very risky) fruit —
investors also continue to believe the promises that growth stocks make, overbidding them, and giving rise to the
value premium.
So
as a
value investor, you're: a) buying a stock you think is cheap, but which could collapse in mere
days, if bad news hits / sentiment turns and finally / suddenly everybody else notices the company's poor financials & bails out indiscriminately, or b) already trying to catch a falling knife!?

value investor; his impulse is to worry more about protecting his
investors when times turn dark than in making them
as rich
as Croesus when the
days are bright and sunny.
Additionally, I would describe myself
as a moderately sophisticated
investor and put a high
value on ease of use
as I have a full - time
day job.

investors tracking it (of course there is always the home owner buying it back and will pay more than an
investor or someone who actually wants to move in and will pay right up to fair market
value for it)..
