Over time, my tastes have evolved enormously - I went through a very long phase
of listening to nothing but John Barry; then moved on to Jerry Goldsmith; and these
days like an enormous range
of film music, both new and
old.

filmed action piece set in Mexico City's
Day of the Dead parade, but Mendes and crew soon settle into a muddled, anti-climactic mishmash

Days of Summer might seem too slight
of a
film even though it is wonderfully written, and the Coen's just won a ton
of Oscars for No Country for
Old Men which I'm sure will hurt their chances.
It's round - about journey to the big - screen was a logical conclusion, and while the first was praised as playfully ridiculous and a violent tongue - in - cheek satire on Mexploitation
films, this sequel is a long, drawn - out series
of mind - numbing beheadings, choppings, limb - hackings and gore - splattering scenes that would make a death camp survivor long for the good
old days.
Nearly two decades later, Jean - Pierre and Luc Dardenne took a stab at their own version
of «Pickpocket» with the harrowing «L'Enfant,» a title referring to both the
film's nine -
day -
old child and the immature young father who sells him — a fatal error that condemns the man's soul and sets him on a quest for spiritual salvation.
She struck a chord within me that resonates to this
day, and in anticipation
of the
film I have been delighted to rewatch and revisit these

I would argue that it is a new
film with an
old soul that harkens back to the
days of enormous epic movies, and should be on the list.
The
film also stars the «Looper» actor as a modern -
day New Jersey Casanova, who's unable to form real relationships with women due to his porn addiction, but begins to soften up after meeting two women, a younger girl (Scarlett Johansson) and an
older classmate (Julianne Moore), and we'd picked it out as one
of the
films likely to spark a bidding war.
Based on the Japanese
film, Midnight Sun centers on Katie, a 17 - year -
old sheltered since childhood and confined to her house during the
day by a rare disease that makes even the smallest amount
of sunlight deadly.
The
film is played out in the last few
days of the all - important Ohio Democratic primary, when the charismatic pro-choice and non-believer Morris is pitted against the
older, duller and more centrist candidate Senator Pullman (Michael Mantell).
Delicately shaded and delightfully
old fashioned, like a fairy tale come to life from a 19th century illustration, it remains to this
day one
of the most beautiful animated features ever made and my favorite Disney
film of all time.
The biggest problems with the
film involve the way it sometimes feels «tacky», almost as if he doesn't care that we know these sets are fake, because at the end
of the
day it's about knowing these characters, not believing that they really recreated
old New York.

A scene in which Milo's vaguely hilarious food allergy comes into play is curiously never resolved, two
of Milo's hacker pals from the
old days are so similar in appearance and voice to one another that I was abstractedly surprised to see them on the screen together at the end
of the
film, the reveal
of a secret molestation is abused in an insulting and clumsy way, and a stock blue - collar cop character is introduced as the worst kind
of deus ex machina: the late - in - the - game triumph
of a heretofore marginalized comic foil (see: Barnard Hughes in The Lost Boys).
The Force Awakens play set arrives on December 18, the same
day as the new
film, which means I'll have a way for further explore whatever the movie has in store for me as soon as I'm back from the theater, just like the relatively good
old days of movie tie - ins.
This is one
of the better
films I have seen this year, and is shot in a way that makes me miss the
old school
days.

A fictionalized account
of the last
day of Oscar Grant III's life, the
film opens with one
of the real life cell - phone clips that captured the 22 - year -
old Black man — lying on his stomach, about to be handcuffed — being shot in the back by BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) policeman Johannes Mehserle at the Fruitvale stop in Oakland.
My personal thoughts on the horror comedy is that it reminds me
of the
old Lionsgate
days, meaning that it's a
film destined for home video, and that it's a good Friday night «what should we watch?»
The
film follows Mannix over the course
of a
day, which gives the Coens, who share writing, directing, and producing credits, an excuse to hop - scotch through the various screen styles
of Old Hollywood.
It also stars Ethan Hawke (last seen in Linklater's Before Midnight at Sundance 2013), who said he shot his first scene when he was 33 - now he's 43 years
old, and now the
film is finally seeing the light
of day.
