Higher temperatures and drought have weakened trees and increased their susceptibility to the bark beetle, resulting in tens of millions of
dead trees across California that have further fueled wildfires.
In 2016 alone, 62 million trees have died, representing more than a 100 percent increase in
dead trees across the state from 2015.
State officials on Monday reported a record 129 million
