Since

But Mr. Kempthorne stressed that the decision was made under some duress, that oil and gas operations were not harmful to the bears and that the Endangered Species Act listing would not affect policy on greenhouse gases (even though the model shows that a continuing

The fact that I can point to the majority of models not predicting this fast of a

According to AMEG, here's how climate change
in the Arctic has changed weather patterns: Over the past three decades, snow cover has been reduced
by 17 - 18 % per decade and
sea ice is
declining fast because of human - induced global warming.
Not only does this low - pressure area, or cyclone, look bigger, more intense and longer - lasting than the one from last year, the

by the fact that 2012 trend lines on both

The effects of
declining sea ice on marine mammals are likely to be reflected
in the shifting of marine mammal populations (or smaller units) to higher latitudes
by either direct movement and / or indirect shifts associated with increased mortality and decreased reproduction at lower latitudes, coincident with decreased mortality and increased reproduction at higher latitudes (Tynan and DeMaster 1997).
For example, the dramatic
decline of summer
sea ice in the Arctic — a loss of
ice cover roughly equal to half the area of the continental United States — exacerbates global warming
by reducing the reflectivity of Earth's surface and increasing the amount of heat absorbed.
As
sea ice declines, it becomes thinner, with less
ice build - up over multiple years, and therefore more vulnerable to further melting.15 Models that best match historical trends project northern waters that are virtually

«There is no doubt that Arctic

Ocean acidification, rising ocean temperatures,
declining sea ice, and other environmental changes interact to affect the location and abundance of marine fish, including those that are commercially important, those used as food
by other species, and those used for subsistence.16, 17,18,122,19,20,21 These changes have allowed some near - surface fish species such as salmon to expand their ranges northward along the Alaskan coast.124, 125,126
In addition, non-native species are invading Alaskan waters more rapidly, primarily through ships releasing ballast waters and bringing southerly species to Alaska.5, 127 These species introductions could affect marine ecosystems, including the feeding relationships of fish important to commercial and subsistence fisheries.
