Starved of solar power, Rosetta's
mission is coming to an end after more than a decade of
operations, concluding with a crash into the comet it has shadowed through
deep space for two years.
Mission control confirmed end of
operations just a few minutes later, at 3:40 p.m., when no signal was detected by NASA's
Deep Space Network (DSN) station in Goldstone, California, at the time the spacecraft would have emerged from behind the planet.
