Let's face it goalkeepers tend to march to the beat
of a different drum and Szczesny certainly fell into that category, but most
of his antics were relatively harmless and simply reflected a certain level
of immaturity that isn't uncommon for someone thrust into the limelight at such a young age... lord knows we've seen that happen with numerous players throughout the years and very few were ever banished for such behaviour... the only on - field action that drove me crazy was his inability to take a deep breath and not try to rush the play with an ill - timed throw at certain points in the
game when common sense suggested holding the ball and slowing things down... the fact that he continued to do this probably had a lot to do with the glaring lack
of coaching time spent with the goalkeepers... ultimately he made the fateful decision to take his frustrations out into the public sphere and paid dearly for it... in the end, his services were wanted by several
of the best Italian squads, which is significant considering the historical importance placed on the
defensive side of the ball in Serie A... all I know is that
if someone asked me to pick the most athletically gifted goalkeeper we have had in our squad since the arrival
of Wenger, without hesitation, he would be my pick and for that reason his departure is more than a little disappointing... what else is new though
Even
if we pull it out, still completely obvious — not prepared on the
defensive side, ill - prepared «
game - plan» to handle to quick «bread - & - butter» counter attack
of our opposition.
yeah many are going to say i would be crazy to leave out Ozil, who, yes have improved, but i will say this his
defensive side of his
game is still lacking, even
if he is one
of the best passers in the world, we can not allow that to be his only criteria for playing.
Its time for Oxlade - Chamberlain to add more discipline to his
game... Would be an amazing player
if he just cut out the stray passes and worked on getting abit more responsibility into the
defensive side of the
game..
If this was the first time we have had a poor start or had lots
of injuries or failed to sign players we need I would agree give Wenger time and a chance to correct but this is why so many
of us are fed up is this is the 9th year now.wenger has no excuses he chose not to buy a DM and CB in the summer when he had the cash to do so, he fails to work on the
defensive side of the
game and we lose
games we should win, he plays top players out
of position arshsvin and now Ozil.
Work on the
defensive side of the
game like tackling, positional awareness and duels to be the # 1 guy there,
if jenko gets back bellerin needs a loan spell to pick up in
game form.
Let's not get Carried away we were inches from being embarrassed and badly need to sort the
defensive side of the
game out coz
if Liverpool press like they did in the first half we would be 5 - 1 down so until wenger buys a CB and DM we should expect more
of the same fron the first half!
Gabriel is 6ft 2in tall and can also play at right - back and left - back
if needed, and has been compared to the ex-Chelsea centre - back David Luiz, but Wenger believes that Gabriel is much more concentrated on the
defensive side of the
game.
