For the past few months, we've been researching how we can best serve you, our digital
audience — and how that can best align with the
work we're doing to better
define Fred Hutch in the non-virtual world.
I
worked on projects to create new marketing and sales material, to develop tools
for employees to use, I helped craft new policies, draft employee communications,
define new roles, and build culture initiatives - all because I understood the problem and had the empathy
for the target
audience.
We can choose to document why we made what we made in the first place, then measure how well it actually
worked against that goal
for the
defined target
audience.
This experience demonstrates several of the district's philosophical underpinnings: designing activities and assessments that require students to incorporate essential 21st century skills, allowing students to
work on clearly
defined tasks with clear expectations, conducting group
work that requires true intellectual collaboration, and having an authentic
audience for learners beyond the teacher or the proverbial refrigerator door.
