Generally healthy little terriers, Cairns can occasionally be prone to skin allergies, cataracts and other eye diseases, heart
defects, thyroid problems, globoid cell leukodystrophy (a
degenerative brain disease), von Willebrand's disease (a bleeding disorder), epilepsy, and joint problems like luxating patellas (kneecaps that slip out of place) and Legg - Perthes (a hip disease).
TBI does not refer to
brain injuries or
defects that are hereditary, congenital or
degenerative, or induced by birth trauma, toxic substances, or disease - producing organisms.
