For example, the percentage
of ANI ancestry ranges from a high
of 71 % in the Pathan ethnic group
of northern India to a low
of 17 % in the Paniya group
of southwest India, meaning that the
degree of ancient
admixture is still measurable and significant in even the most isolated and endogamous ethnic groups.
In a recent UK study, several breeds were shown to maintain a high
degree of genetic diversity, in particular the Jack Russell Terrier, which showed extensive
admixture and very low levels
of inbreeding [19].
