A recent NTSB report revealed that sleep -
deprived air traffic controllers played a role in at least four near - fatal incidents on the nation's runways since 2001, and the controller on duty in one of the worst U.S. accidents in five years — the 2006 crash of a Comair flight that killed 49 people in Lexington, Kentucky — was working on only two hours of sleep.
