Outliers» I was struck by how often when successful people
described their lives, they would talk about the things that went wrong or the things that were hard,
as opposed to the things that were easy or went right.

How did the IPCC come to promote an «
outlier» (
as Dr Curtis Covey
described the stick) by an obscure individual of no previous distinction
as the consensus of the world's scientists?
If, when you did that, the marginal increase in likelihood of new extremes fell more in line with the (e.g.) 20 % that seems typical of recent attribution studies, then this would place what is now an extreme
outlier result (
as it is being interpreted, not
as the authors
described it) more in line with the rest of the literature.
